List of policemen killed in July-August published
The interim government has released the information and list of names of 44 policemen who were killed during the anti-discrimination student movement in Bangladesh last July-August. Friday (25/10/2024). Policemen were killed in violence in different parts of the country.
The chief counsel's office also says that the police department maintains a very careful list of officers or constables who have been injured or killed during protests or violence. If anyone claims that there have been police deaths outside of this list in the mass uprising, the evidence is called for.
A message from the Office of the Chief Adviser said, "We have noticed that some news outlets and some individuals are deliberately spreading false and incorrect information about the number of policemen killed in the July-August student-led mass uprising." The list published today mentions the name, rank, date of death, which unit he was working in and the place of the incident. Among them are three police inspectors, 11 sub-inspectors (SIs), 7 assistant sub-inspectors (ASIs), 1 ATSI, 1 Naik and 21 constables.
Among the policemen who died, 14 were working in Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), 15 from Enayetpur Police Station in Sirajganj, 2 from Sonaimuri Police Station in Noakhali, 2 from Titas Police Station in Comilla, 1 person from Kachua Police Station in Chandpur, 1 person from Baniachong Police Station in Habiganj, 1 person from SB in Dhaka. 1 from Narayanganj PBI, 1 from Tourist Police Headquarters, 1 from Comilla Highway Police, 1 from Brahmanbaria Kasba Police Station, 1 from Khulna Metropolitan Police, 1 from Gazipur Metropolitan Police and 2 from Dhaka District. 25 of the slain policemen died inside and in front of the police station.
The highest number of 24 policemen were killed on the day Sheikh Hasina left power. 14 people died the previous day on August 4.
